Hello and welcome! I’m Katie, owner/founder/designer of Hive Design. From a young age, I had always imagined owning my own business. My parents are entrepreneurs and I’ve been exposed to that work/home balance my entire life. I attended Kansas State University where I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Interior Design, following I earned my license as a Professional Interior Designer through the NCIDQ.
Since then, I have been involved and employed in multiple niches of design, from commercial to residential. Residential design has always been my passion though, and what I LOVE to do. In 2020 I decided to take the leap and start Hive Design. I saw, and still see, a great need for trustworthy professionals in the construction industry. It is a huge goal of mine to minimize the number of dissatisfied consumers during their construction projects. The stress these types of experiences can have on clients is really unlike anything else they may go through in life - and I want to help ensure it runs as smooth as possible.
I love to guide clients through this process so that they can feel confident in the end product they receive!
We strive to bridge between any gaps of communication during your project; to ensure that it runs smoothly, on time, and within budget.
Rest assured, you won’t have to second guess selections, and stress over making the wrong decisions. Direct specifications are key, along with timeliness, honesty, and communication.
Back when I was in college and beyond, I just wished so badly I could walk through them and be a part of it all. And now, that passion has lead me to this business that allows me to serve my clients by being their communicator, voice, vision, shoulder to cry on...anything!
It is such an all-in experience building a home, or even doing a "simple" kitchen remodel. And so hard to juggle in addition to everyday life. I love being able to take the reigns, be given creative freedom, and then help direct your visions and ideas to life during the construction process.
Unparalleled customer service. Think of me as your built in BFF on this venture. Clear goals, vision, and communication are of the upmost importance!
Creating a distinct style for your home that is true to you and the architecture of the build, provides longevity to the aesthetic, and overall satisfaction of the end product. I dig deep into style, function, and proportions to make sure that you end up with a cohesive home that feels comfortable and inviting.
I hold myself to the highest standard, and will hold all other contractors on the project to the same level. Mistakes and setbacks are not uncommon on construction sites, but helping to ensure the job is done correctly and at a quality level, are areas where I strive to be a voice for my clients. I’m also unafraid to tell you, "No, that won’t look good.” ;)
I can never be brought on too early for a project. The sooner you include me on your venture, the more cohesive the end product will be. And the smoother the project will run! We layout the framework and expectations of the job, which gets you more accurate budget numbers, gives all parties clarity on what is expected, and complete all design work that gets you excited to see it come to life!
If you don’t have one already, bring a contractor onboard. I have a trusted list of professionals I have worked with who can help you get the job done.
Here’s where I take our vision, and give you all the exact ingredients to make it a reality. I also help request pricing, review quotes for accuracy, and submit orders to the concerned party. Sure, we liked that photo with the marble tile flooring - but what is it exactly? Ahem..."Insert: Emser - Contessa Glazed 12x24 Tile - Laid 1/3 Offset, Parallel Vanities - Grout Color: Mapei Frost. Vendor - Star Lumber."
Minute details like these have to be communicated to installers on the jobsite.
Here is where all of our prep work comes into play. Documentation is very important, things get lost in translation SO easily with dozens of vendors involved. On top of making selections, I record everything to hand off to the people who need it, simultaneously communicating details that are often foreign to clients. This leaves little room for questions and a lot less room for errors and confusion. I absolutely love helping ensure everything runs smoothly on your jobsite.
This is where we switch roles and YOU help me! I would love an in-person final walkthrough, onsite with you, to rehash the project, successes & pitfalls, and hear your thoughts on working with me.
Following up with an online review of my services is SO appreciated. I likely have added you to social media, and look forward to keeping in touch with you. YAY! You’re HOME!
